Meet Sam Ellis from our new business team
Tell me about your career path and how you got to The Media Group?
I joined the Halifax Building Society straight from school and worked across all aspects of the business. I eventually moved to the Head Office in Yorkshire during the difficult time when the base rate was above 15%.
My husband John and I moved to Antwerp, Belgium where we lived for two years. We returned to England and in 2004, with three children, I began working part-time at The Media Group.
What are you working on right now?
My role is to identify businesses, charities and organisations we want to work with and to introduce The Media Group to their decision makers.
I try to nurture leads until they are ready to talk to our account management team with a brief for a project.
What’s your favourite piece of work?
My favourite project is the Royal Air Forces Association Conference. We identified them as a client we wanted to win and then went through the full new business process to get them on board. We now have a fantastic relationship with them and help them with a series of events.
We’re looking forward to working on their flagship conference again in 2017.
What does it take to be a success in New Business?
You need to be the right mix of methodical and creative. And also be patient and resilient.
It can be a lengthy process building relationships with your targets. I don’t take any setbacks personally and I’m happy to be persistent, without (hopefully) being irritating.
It’s a really good feeling when you introduce a new client to the company.
What do you get up to outside the office?
My husband and kids keep me busy. As do our two dogs, Fred and Harry. I love exercise, particularly running and running events.
I also love travelling and have been lucky enough to have visited some amazing places – Cape Town is up there as one of the best. Having lived in Belgium, we took the opportunity to visit lots of interesting places across mainland Europe.
I love to travel and explore new places, but there’s a few that I’ll always go back to. Try Borough Market in London and the Hoste Arms in Burnham Market, Norfolk.
